Roanoke, or the “Star City” as it is often called, has a rich history. It was originally the home of the Tutelo Indian tribe situated in the Blue Ridge in part of the Appalachian Mountain chain. The Scotch-Irish and German Americans moved into the area in the 17th and 18th centuries and 1882, “Big Lick” as it was then called, became a headquarters for the Norfolk and Western Railway.
The city is known for its iconic star, which sits atop Mill Mountain and shines brightly each night.
There are many pet friendly places such as restaurants and cafes and plenty of outdoor hiking and walking areas for dogs.
Here are some pet friendly apartments located within the city.
